Frequently Asked Questions
Will we take our pictures in a studio?
No. I am an on-location photographer, which means that we meet at a location in the Round Rock area to capture your pictures. I also am a natural light photographer, meaning that I do not use studio lights to light my subject. Because of this, I only schedule outdoor sessions in the hours just after sunrise and just before sunset to make sure to capture that beautiful light. I try to avoid shooting from around 10 am to 4 pm because the light at these times creates harsh shadows on faces and isn’t usually very flattering. Newborn sessions however, will be scheduled during these times at your home or mine.
What should we wear to our session? What types of clothing should I wear?
In general, it’s best to coordinate clothing, but not to pick anything too matchy-matchy. I love bold prints and patterns along with solid colors, but I ask that you stay away from writing and large slogans on clothing. Wearing layers look great and add depth in a photo! Primary colors such as red, blue and mustard yellow look great in photos. Other colors look good as well such as purple, white, tan, and gray. Just try to avoid too much green or anything with bright or neon. It can cause color casts on skin and if you’re doing a park setting there will already be tons of green in your photo. Now although it’s a classic look, I suggest avoiding wearing all white in your photos since it tends to wash people out. If you need any guidance with choosing what to wear, send me an email. I’d be more than happy to help you find some styles that will work for your family or even take a look at pictures of what you’ve picked out to give suggestions.
What happens if it rains/is extremely windy?
In the event of inclement weather, we will have to reschedule your session for another date. I try my best to fit you in as soon as possible, but it can take a few weeks to get another session on the books.
What happens if someone in my family is sick?
I would never want to photograph anyone who wasn’t feeling their best. If you or a family member is feeling ill before the session, please contact me as soon as possible to notify me. We can reschedule your session for another date when everyone is feeling 100%. Since my schedule is usually booked fully, it may take a few weeks before the rescheduled session takes place.
What happens if my child doesn’t cooperate during the session? Will we get a “re-do?”
I try my hardest to make your session more like a fun play-date than a boring photo shoot…unfortunately, though, little ones don’t always think photo shoots are fun. We will take frequent breaks during your session to give your child snacks or just to give him or her a break from the camera. Re-shoots are offered on a case-by-case basis after I’ve had time to go through the images captured at your session.
How do I schedule a newborn session when I don’t know when my baby will be born?
We’ll pencil in your due date on my calendar so I know to reserve some time in the weeks before and after for your newborn session. Then, when you have your baby, just message me and we’ll set up a date and time for me to come. Newborn sessions are typically 2-3 hours at either your home or mine and ten days or younger is the best time to take photos. I will have available props for you to choose from and you can bring your own such as headbands, blankets, etc. Most outfits do not fit well on newborns, so nothing usually works best along with a cute little accessory. Before I arrive to your home, please heat your house to a nice and cozy low 80's to keep your baby warm during the session. Also try to keep baby up the hour before the session time and then feed your baby when I arrive. This will help us achieve those sweet sleepy photos :)
I had a baby three weeks ago. Will you take newborn pictures for me?
Unfortunately, the ‘golden period’ for newborns is in their first two weeks of life. After that, it’s very unpredictable if we can get them to sleep or not and the session can get quite stressful for everyone involved. Because of this, I do not photograph newborns older than two weeks old unless there have been extenuating circumstances like a NICU stay. Instead, I recommend waiting until the 3-4 month period where your child is smiling and interacting with you. Those first gummy smiles are priceless!
When should we do my maternity photos?
Maternity photos are usually done in your third trimester, between 30-36 weeks. They can really be done at any time, but doing them in this time frame allows your belly to really “pop,” and hopefully you’re not too uncomfortable yet!
